Bible Study

Following a very successful Lenten Bible Study we look forward to starting again soon.

We all enjoyed the LUMO project film adaptation of John’s Gospel. As soon as the next film, which is of Mark’s Gospel,  is available we will get back together to watch it together.

And hopefully the cakes will be just as good!

  1. Following last Sunday’s theme of prayer and my first time at the prayer meeting on Monday I was reminded of one of my favourite pieces of literature. Although the text is secular I think the words echo some of the themes from last Sunday’s reading from Hosea e,g, ‘we are not wholly bad or good’ and also shows his infinite patience with us by always trying to see the best in us. There is also just the simple request that God let’s us see another day alluding to the fragility of life, which is refreshing in this day and age when there seems to be such greed without giving any thought to the wonderful and valuable gift of life that we have already.

    Every morning when I wake,
Dear Lord, a little prayer I make,
O please do keep Thy lovely eye
On all poor creatures born to die

    And every evening at sun-down
I ask a blessing on the town,
For whether we last the night or no
    I’m sure is always touch-and-go.

We are not wholly bad or good
Who live our lives under Milk Wood,
And Thou, I know, wilt be the first
To see our best side, not our worst.

O let us see another day!
Bless us all this night, I pray,
And to the sun we all will bow
And say, good-bye – but just for now!
