The Walking Group meets on the Second Saturday of Every Month – All Welcome!

Aberlour Walking Group is a welcoming group, open to everybody in the community. Our aim is to combine walking with an opportunity to meet and chat with other walkers, and to introduce walkers to some new areas. Children are welcome, and so are dogs, under adult supervision. We usually stop for a quick tea/coffee enroute, so please bring a flask and wear walking boots or strong shoes. Come ready to start the walks at 9:30am. If you need more information or help with transport please contact Donald (contact details below). Please confirm with Donald that you are coming on any walk.

  • 9th September 2023: Lhanbryde–Mosstodloch walk

The September walk is from Lhanbryde to Mosstodloch.

Route: We walk on paths through the Loch Na Bo estate, passing Kettle Loch, then Blackburn and to the old Orbliston station. A minor road then takes us to Balnacoul Wood, where we follow a path to Mosstodloch.

Distance: The walk is approx. 10km with 80m ascent.

As this is not a circular route, we will be leaving cars at both ends. Flyers will be in the church and on our noticeboards from 20th August. Please let Donald know if you will be joining us – tel: 07909 936724 or email to aberlourwalking@gmail.com by Thursday 7th September. Donald will then email you further details.

  • 8th October 2022: Scalan walk

The October walk is a change to the one advertised in the Kirk News.

Route: The walk to Scalan is a shorter walk than normal, with a more physical option added-on to Tom Trumper. The local Ranger will take us on a guided tour of the Scanlan Mills (and seminary) which gives a fascinating glimpse of our rural past.

The walk starts at 11am from the Scalan car park. Flyers are in the church and on our noticeboards. Please let Donald know if you will be joining us – tel: 07909 936472 or email to aberlourwalking@gmail.com by Thursday 6th October. Donald will then email you further details.

  • 13th August 2022: Cullen–Findochty walk

Start point: Travel on A98 from Fochabers, turn left under and through viaduct shortly after Cullen Bay Hotel. Park at the Golf Club Car Park.

Route: The route follows good quality tracks and the beach. We will have lunch at picnic tables at Findochty. The only steep section is at the start, when we walk up the viaduct. Please let me know if you would find this difficult, and I will drive you round to a gentler start.

    Distance: ~10km (6m), total ascent 180m.

    Walk leader: Donald Grassie.
